Buffet, Bali Style
On one day of our holiday in Bali, we took a day trip around the central part of the island to see some well-known sites, including the active volcano Gunung Batur. We did not hike on the mountain, so we didn't see lava, but the views were pretty great. After driving down a narrow, winding road into the crater, we came back up for lunch.
Our driver took us to a restaurant that was most definitely a tourist trap, or at least not a place locals would ever eat, or afford to eat. It had a huge eating area with a rather extensive buffet, which cost 100,000 rupiah, or just over $10 USD per person.
The food on the buffet was Indonesian-inspired and of quite a variety: different types of soup, rice, noodles, vegetables, meats, skewers. There were also deep-fried vegetables, and even deep-fried bananas, as well as fruit, for dessert.
Overall, the buffet food was okay, but the main attraction of the restaurant was the view. Of course, I waited to take photos until after we ate, when lots of low gray clouds had rolled in!
