The Wonton Place Downstairs
The ground floor of our building has shops in it, not apartments. There is a real estate agent, a mom and pop convenience store and an incredibly popular Sichuan-style wonton and noodle stall. I don't know its actual name; we call it 'the wonton place'.
The stall is run by two men, Charles and Eddie, and one woman, who is Eddie's wife. There are also an elderly man and woman who help out. The stall is open Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, or until they run out. They close on Sundays and sometimes on public holidays.
They have three main items on their menu: homemade pork wontons, noodles in spicy soup and cold noodles with spices like cilantro, garlic, chili and onion. You can order your choice of a small, medium or large amount of spice.
I've never ordered the wontons (though I know many people who like them), but the noodles in hot soup and the cold noodles are both delicious. The medium level of spice works well for me, though when you've finished eating, your lips are still tingling.
