The Sweeter Side of the Big Easy
In New Orleans, our team attended the AAO Orbital Gala, a fundraising dinner/dance, which was held at Mardi Gras World. The buffet dinner included local favorites such as shrimp and grits, alligator sausage, crawfish and more.
Additionally, the centerpiece of each table was our dessert: traditional Mardi Gras king cake. More like a cinnamon roll, it was both colorful and delicious. However, not having eating king cake before, I can't say if it was truly authentic.

More than once in New Orleans, I saw "pecan cobbler" listed on a dessert menu. As a big fan of pecan pie, I decided to investigate. I was not expecting it to be served in a martini glass at Acme Oyster House, but it was a very pleasant surprise indeed. The "cobbler" was more like melted pecan pie filling, topped with vanilla ice cream and gooey caramel.
The best bread pudding we ate in New Orleans (yes, we tried more than one) was at Creole House on Canal Street. Although the sauce didn't include any liquor, the pudding was just the right consistency and perfectly spiced with cinnamon.
