Gaylord Indian Restaurant, a HK institution

This summer we tried one of Hong Kong's long-running Indian restaurants, Gaylord Indian Restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui, with a few friends. It must be very popular/famous, as we couldn't get a reservation until 8:30pm on a Friday night.

The most interesting dish we ordered was a starter called guava gol kappas (above). They were like panipuri, which I've had before, except served atop shot glasses full of surprisingly spicy guava juice. We debated about the appropriate technique for eating them, but I took a bite of the gol kappa and a shot of juice afterwards.

Another highlight of the meal was paneer tikka masala. Rather than served on skewers, the paneer was in large slabs almost like steaks. What's not to love about seasoned cheese?!

We also got a few curries (one fish, one lamb, one chicken) to share, as well as rice and bread. One of the house special naan breads included truffles and cheese, which was probably not "authentic" but still pretty tasty. For dessert, we each had a tiny slab of saffron ice cream--another interesting combination which was delicious.
