The home of bubble tea in Taichung

Two bowls of noodles and two iced drinks on a wooden table

This Easter, we took a quick trip to Taiwan, specifically Taichung and Chiayi (to head up to Alishan). One of the famous places to eat in Taichung is Chun Shui Tang, which is supposedly the restaurant where bubble tea was first invented.

Unfortunately, since we were both recovering from a stomach bug, we didn't get to try any of the milk teas with tapioca pearls per the doctor's orders to forgo dairy (though I wouldn't have ordered one myself anyway as I've been avoiding caffeine while pregnant).

Still, we had some very delicious iced lemon honey drinks, rather like lemonade, that were just the right amount of sweetness (even though we chose the 50% sugar option).

The food at the restaurant was very tasty too, not to mention reasonably priced. David ordered a bowl of classic braised beef noodle soup, and I had vegetarian noodles in a lovely sesame/ginger sauce. Side note: it was awesome how many restaurants had veggie options on their menus in Taiwan.
