Beachside Eats in Waikiki

The first time we tried to eat at Duke's Waikiki, we arrived after there was already a sizable line for both the dining room and the beachside seating area. So, we came back again the next evening but earlier, and though there was still a wait, our meal was perfectly timed with the sunset.

At a beachside restaurant, it seemed appropriate to order fish and thus I chose fish tacos. They were pretty good, though I was hoping for corn tortillas, more of the creamy sauce and perhaps breaded fish. To drink I had a lava flow (aka a pina colada with strawberry), and it was fantastic.

Not far from Duke's is Steak Shack, a small takeaway shop on the beachfront. Their limited menu includes steak and/or chicken with rice and salad. Unfortunately, the meals are served in very un-ecofriendly polystyrene containers with plastic cutlery.

Nevertheless, my steak was well seasoned and very tasty, though it might've been slightly more done than medium rare. I was also glad for the opportunity to order ranch dressing, which is not common in Hong Kong.

Although there aren't many tables outside the restaurant, there is also a beachside park nearby with seating and trash cans. Just beware of the pigeons (though they weren't nearly as aggressive as seagulls)!
