Two for One

Eating Western food in Hong Kong can sometimes be a bit expensive. Well, at least expensive compared to eating more local food. For instance, dinner for one at a typical Western restaurant (not including chains like Subway, etc.) would be about $100 HK, which is between $12 and $13 US, and that isn't including a drink or appetizer or anything. At many Chinese restaurants, you could pay half that or even less for an entree that comes with rice and hot tea. The good news is that two very lovely Western restaurants, and perhaps many more as well, have two-for-one deals once per week.

The Cannyman is a traditional Scottish pub in Wan Chai. Every Monday night, they run their two-for-one offer. That is, every Monday night but this past one, when the kitchen was under construction. It is definitely worth a visit, though, for favorites from the British Isles like steak and ale pie, roast dinners and haggis. They also run a special that is about $140 HK for a soup or salad, main course, dessert and glass of wine or beer, which I would highly recommend.

Tequila's, one of Hong Kong's few Mexican restaurants, is another place that does two-for-one offers on Monday evenings. They apparently don't have a website, but are located in Soho right next to The Flying Pan (another of my favorites). As far as Mexican food goes, Tequila's cuisine is pretty close to what you'd find in the US. The fajitas are delicious, as is the Mexican pizza. The guacamole and salsa are both good, though there are no unlimited chips and dip. :(
